There's not a lot to do at Playa Grande in Costa Rica. And that's just the way the locals like it. You can surf or walk on the beach or nap in a hammock or hang out in one of the bars, but that's about it.

Relaxation is the name of the game, unlike Playa Tamarindo, just across the estuary, where the Americans vacation at the big resorts. Thus, its nickname Playa Tamagringo.

Walking on the beach at Playa Grande one day I saw this young woman playing with her dog in the surf. He had a great time fetching the stick and jumping in the waves, so I snapped a couple of shots.
