Guess what? So does every other human on the planet. Do yourself a favor. Go to Rome. See the sights. But, also take the time to explore some of Italy's other great places. Places that aren't on every single person's list like Lecce, which I've posted about here and here. Or Torino. Or Otrigia in Sicily. Or maybe a place like Bologna or Ferrara, which I recommend as an alternative to crowded Florence. You won't find the blockbuster sights like the Colosseum or the Duomo in Florence, but you might just experience the authentic Italy.
