Ehukai Beach aka Banzai Pipeline

Lifeguards at Ehukai Beach (Banzai Pipeline), North Shore, Oahu
Ehukai Beach is one the north shore of Oahu and one of the most famous surfing spots in the world.
Ehukai Beach (Banzai Pipeline), North Shore, Oahu

It is known for having some of the best waves for surfers and during the winter surfing season, it can be incredibly crowded as both surfers and spectators crowd the area.
No surfing today
On the day we went, there was high surf, but it was posted all up and down the beach that conditions were dangerous and people were warned to stay out of the water.

Lifeguards are on duty every day and on this day, they were also warning folks not to go in the water.
Lonely cocnut
Because of this, and because the skies were mostly overcast, the beach was pretty deserted.
Waves filling a small tidal pool

That was fine by us, as we wandered down the shore and enjoyed the big waves crashing on the beach.
Another tidal pool, this one bigger
One of the best things about this beach is that it is very flat. With large waves, that can cause small pools to form in the sand. Some weren't much bigger than a puddle, others were thirty feet across and the water almost went up to my knees.
Even the flags can't keep up with the conditions
Since this spot is only a 45 minute drive from our house, we'll be going here often. But, I'm especially looking forward to the winter when the surfers will be out in full force.
It's just a stick in a tidal pool, but I liked the way it looked
