Waikiki is filled with high end resorts, overpriced restaurants and souvenir shops bursting with trinkets. The Wailana Coffee House can be viewed one of two ways. First, as kitschy throwback to old Hawaii as depicted in 1960s movies. Or, it can be seen as a genuine Polynesian cultural artifact. Maybe, it's somewhere in between.

Look at the carpeting that matches the upholstery in the booths that also matches the waitresses' outfits. The wood laminate, the bucket seats at the bar, this place looks like something out of a museum. And they have karaoke every night.

Go for breakfast, or go afterhours for cocktails, but go to the Wailana Coffee House, it's a trip.
