Wisconsin Point Lighthouse, Superior, Wisconsin
Lake Superior is one of the most dangerous freshwater bodies of water to navigate in the world. Not only can raging storms flare up without warning, but rocks and shoals abound. In the last decades of the 1800s, over 200 ships were wrecked every year on Lake Superior, leading to the loss of hundreds of lives.
There are dozens of lighthouses at dangerous points and harbor entryways all around Lake Superior. Some are very remote, others are readily accessible.
Wisconsin Point Light, in Superior, Wisconsin is at the westernmost edge of Lake Superior. It warns of a huge sandbar stretching from Superior to Duluth, Minnesota.
I especially like the design of the lighthouse, with it's tower and second rounded building.
