Foster Botanical Garden, Honolulu, Hawaii

Right in the middle of busy downtown Hawaii, is Foster Botanical Garden. In fact, in some areas of the 14 acre site you can hear the traffic roaring by. But, make no mistake, this spot is an oasis.

Without a doubt, my favorite plant at the garden is the Cannonball tree.

The sign at the foot of the tree cracks me up.
And the flowers are impossibly beautiful.
Of course there's lots of other plants to enjoy.
And, a greenhouse has other tropical plants.

The Foster Botanical Garden also offers free concerts on Thursday evenings during the week. Everything from bluegrass to Celtic music are on tap this summer. Best of all, admission to the park is free during the concerts.

If you go: There's free parking at the entrance. Park entrance is $5, $3 for Hawaii residents. The park closes at 4, but I'd suggest going in the morning when the temp is cooler.
