Mago Jam

Kapena performing at Mango Jam
This past weekend was the annual Mango Jam festival in Honolulu. The spacious Frank F. Fasi Civic Grounds on the corner of S. King and South Street had lots of people out for a free night of entertainment.
The music stage features tons of Hawaiian acts. When we were there Friday night, we saw Kapena, a group that has been performing Hawaiian music for thirty years and has over 20 CDs to their credit.
There's also a beer garden and tons of vendors selling everything mango, from shave ice (of course), juice, desserts and even BBQ (there's a mango BBQ contest this year at the Mango Jam). But, my favorite vendor had nothing to do with the festival's namesake fruit. A sugar cane vendor was crushing the sugar cane to extract juice and selling cups of the sweet treat for $5.
