Drum Point Lighthouse, Solomons Island, Maryland
Dozens of the so-called "screw-pile" lighthouses were constructed and operated in the Chesapeake Bay during the last 150 years. But, almost all of them were destroyed by ice and now only three remain.
Drum Point is one of those. It was moved from its original location in to the Calvert Marine Museum in 1975. After falling victim to vandalism and neglect in the 1960s, the lighthouse has been beautifully restored. You can tour the lighthouse which is quite popular due to its unusual hexagonal shape.
