Henry's House Hotel, Ortigia, Sicily

Henry's House Hotel, dining room
On our first visit to Sicily, we stayed in Ortigia for only one night. It was Karen's idea and I was a little reluctant to go. We were spending most of time in Palermo and I wanted to get there as quickly as possible. Besides, a bridge that connected one side of Sicily to the other was out so we were going to have to take a 2-3 hour detour anyway, why not get to Palermo right away?

As usual, Karen was right. Ortigia is a dream. We enjoyed it so much that we returned the next year for long stay. We still talk about going back, something that is very unusual for us since we're always looking for a new destination.

During that first visit we stayed at Henry's House Hotel, a family run B&B on the water in the heart of Ortigia. The owners were very kind to us, helping us navigate what were to us, very complicated streets and alleys in town.
Although that original trip was very brief, it was memorable and we managed to pack a lot into it, even making some time to relax on the beautiful rooftop lounge. How can you not be tranquil with Buddha reminding you to take it easy?
