Michigan City East Lighthouse, Michigan City, Indiana

Michigan City East Lighthouse, Michigan City, Indiana
Indiana isn't known for its lighthouses. Many people probably don't realize that Indiana has a shoreline across Lake Michigan. It's very short, but it does exist.
Michigan City, Indiana is close to Chicago. On a clear day you can see all the way back to the city. Many Chicagoans moor their boats in Michigan City because of the lower rates compared to Chicago.
There's been a lighthouse at this location for almost 200 years. The 1858 light at the entrance to the park is a museum and open to the public.
One of the unique features of the Michigan City East Lighthouse is the intact original iron walkway to the lighthouse. Very few of these are still in existence.
