Morgan Point Lighthosue, Noank, Connecticut

The two and a half story granite building housing the Morgan Point Lighthouse was built in 1868 to replace the old lighthouse from 1831 which was deemed as too dim. The design gives the lighthouse a warm feeling which almost resembles a school house.

The lighthouse ended service in 1921 as it was replaced by the light at Crook's Ledge and was sold at auction in 1922. After that, the original lantern room was removed, or perhaps destroyed during the hurricane of 1938.

In 1991, Jason Pilalas bought the lighthouse for $1.29 million and subsequently reconstructed the lantern room which you can see in the picture above. Mr. Pilalas also renovated the entire space and replaced the leaky roof. Today, the lighthouse is his private residence and is not open to the public, though it still serves as an informal navigation landmark for boats entering Mystic Harbor.
