Breadsticks

In Piedmont, restaurants normally put breadsticks on the table.  Sometimes, like in the picture above, you'll get bread as well.  

One thing I was never able to figure out was how to use the olive oil with the breadsticks.  There's no dish to pour a puddle of oil and dip the breadsticks, and that wouldn't really work anyway.  Try to pour just a drop of oil on the end of the breadstick and you're sure to end up with olive nectar running down your forearm to your elbow.

I never saw saw a local use the oil with their breadstick, so I'll just assume that the oil is there for show.
