A roof that they encourage you to walk on

Oslo Opera House, Oslo, Norway

The Bjørvika neighborhood on the Oslofjord used to be a rather run-down area. But, now it is home to the spectacular Oslo Opera House.

Completed just ten years ago, the opera house has become a major tourist attraction, even for those who never see a performance in the facility. That's because of the unique design of the building and its sloped roof which allows for visitors to walk all the way to the top of the structure, yielding spectacular views of the city.

And, the building of the opera house has spurred additional growth in the area. Check out the crane visible in the skyline in the picture above.

On the day we visited, Carmen was playing. Alas, it was sold out.
