Fireworks in Waikiki, Hawaii

We did it. We packed up and moved to Honolulu.

Forever?

Who knows.

We are committed to be here for at least a year.

And we're very much looking forward to exploring the islands.
Neither Karen nor I had set foot on Hawaii when we made the decision, so our families and friends were justifiably shocked at the decision.

But sometimes opportunities present themselves and you gotta jump.

So we did.

One of the first things we did was to enjoy the free fireworks show on Waikiki. Every Friday, the Hilton Hawaiian Village puts on a fireworks show at about 7:45. It only lasts for ten minutes or so, but the sight of the colors exploding over the water is quite exciting.

It was pouring rain the night we went, so we took cover under the covered sidewalk nearby. Still, it was an enjoyable show. The only problem was that from that spot it was hard to get good pictures.

If you go and it's not raining, I'd suggest getting a spot on the beach, which makes for an excellent (and free) vantage point.
