Conimicut Point Lighthouse, Warwick, RI

Lighthouse at high tide
In the early 90s, after living in Providence, I moved to Warwick, Rhode Island, in an area called Conimicut. I rented the third floor apartment of a old colonial house. The apartment was tiny, but it had a view of Narragansett Bay.
I like the motion of the water in this picture
At the end of the road was a park with a peninsula jutting out into the bay.

A little ways out in the bay in the Conimicut Point Lighthouse. The light is a "Sparkplug" style, aka Caisson style light, and if you look at the pictures, you'll see why they're called "Sparkplug."
See the resemblance to a spark plug?
The reason for the location of the Conimicut Point Light is the sandbar leading from the shore to the light. At low tide, the sandbar is visible, and you can even walk out to the lighthouse. But, be careful! The tide comes in quickly and several times while I was living in Conimicut, people had to be rescued by the Fire Department because they couldn't get back to shore in time.
Low tide when the sandbar is visible. It will disappear shortly as the tide comes in quickly
Today, the city owns the lighthouse and they've tried to restore it, but were never able to get the funding to do so. Lately, they've been trying to find an entrepreneur to take over the property to perhaps turn it into a B&B, which would be a good idea.
Conimicut Point Light from a distance. Notice how the sandbar is completely submerged
This lighthouse holds a special place in my heart, not just because I lived in Conimicut for a couple years and went to that park on an almost daily basis, but because this is one of the places I took Karen on our first date.
