Kalua o Maua Beach aka Three Tables Beach, North Shore, Oahu
 Kalua o Maua translates to Three Tables and the three volcanic reefs offshore account for the name.

Between trips to Turtle Beach and Banzai Pipeline, we stopped here for lunch.

Karen had packed a picnic and there are some picnic tables near the parking lot.

The beach has a small spit of sand, but it is rocky for the most part, accounting for it's lack of visitors on the day we were there.

In fact, the only people we saw were some state workers taking a lunch break, just like us!

I've read that the water is excellent for snorkeling and spotting Green Turtles, but they don't come on to the beach often, if at all.

Defying gravity
Apparently, this is a common practice in Hawaii and there are some beaches where there are hundreds of these structures.

But, the practice is discouraged because it can impact the environment as well as be a health hazard to humans, especially children, if the rocks were to fall over. Still, it was interesting to look at them.
