Puppies!

We were walking back to our B&B from a day of exploring the seaside town of Rovinj, Croatia. I heard a slight commotion or rustle several meters away; probably from one of the houses we were passing, but I thought nothing of it.

Suddenly, we were surrounded by six or eight puppies, barking and yapping around our ankles. I laughed at the ridiculousness of the situation but quickly realized the danger. We were walking along a fairly busy street with cars whizzing by. The puppies weren't going into the street, but they could easily wander into traffic.

We tried to lead them up the walkway towards the house where I thought they came from but they weren't having it. Then, the screen door to the house opened and a woman came out. She grabbed two puppies by the scruff of their necks and the others followed her.
"Hvala," she said, thanking us. We tried to explain that we were trying to help, but not speaking Croatian, we gave up and nodded. She smiled and the puppies headed back home.
