DeTour Reef Lighthouse, Lake Huron, Michigan

DeTour Lighthouse barely visible from the shore
Originally built on shore at Point De Tour, Michigan in 1847, the onshore light was destroyed and replaced with a new on in 1931 which was placed on the reef a mile offshore.

Today, the DeTour Reef Lighthouse Preservation Society owns and operates the lighthouse which can be visited on a boat operated by the DTRLPS for $100 (!) per person. Overnight stays can also be booked through the DTRLPS.

Instead of spending $200 for us to see a closeup view of the lighthouse, I bought a postcard for fifty cents.
