Parade in Siena

Siena is divided into 17 districts, or contrade. The residents of each contrade have a great deal of pride for their district, wearing its colors and displaying the flag.

Just north of the Piazza del Campo is the contrade Lupa (the She-Wolf). We happened upon a parade for Lupa in Siena. As we were situated above the street, we could also see a parade for another contrade coming the other way. For a while it looked like there was going to be a contrade parade collision, but at the last moment disaster was averted as one parade veered off.

Reminded me of the marching band in Animal House.
